CES 2009 Coverage

A small collection of the press coverage received after CES 2009.

Jon Iverson - Stereophile - http://blog.stereophile.com/ces2009

Is the CD dying? Judging by the flurry of new CD player and transport news at the Venetian it's hard to tell. Or maybe this show is living proof that CD has joined vinyl as a legacy format that will forever inspire technical development.

In any event, the new Vitus SCD-010 looks like a serious attempt to push the format to extremes. The player is built around a highly modified Philips CDPro-2LF drive mechanism that is surrounded in damped aluminum.

The digital conversion is handled by a DSP module from Anagram Technologies acheiving a claimed sample rate of 384KHz. The player also uses the Anagram Timelock to keep everything steady and has four internal power supplies.

"You have got to check out Vitus," Jon Iverson enthused. When I did, I took his point. Vitus Audio is the love child of Hans-Ole Vitus, who takes a holistic approach to audio design. Vitus products are, he explains, the result of relationships-not just parts and circuits, but how they interact with one another. I suspect, from looking at the gear, Vitus is also concerned about beauty, too.

Vitus uses "super precision resistors, matched transistors, and direct-coupled input stages. Its locally shunted power supply provides "absolute silence," Vitus claims. The SL-010 line stage and SP-101 phono section (can't read my notes) appeared to back up that claim. Music emerged from silence with three-dimensional clarity, possessing surprising warmth.

I'm going to keep my eye (ears) on Vitus.

Vitus Audio/German Physics - Stereotimes.com

This was another stellar sounding room. The German Physics 120 Loudspeakers were showcased with fabulous electronics from none other than the Vitus Audio; the newly introduced SL-010 preamplifier is a smaller version of the signature SL-101. It, like its big brother, also employs match transistors and super precision resistors, combined with a special coupling of each input stage. This results in an ultra linear frequency response.

The SM-010 monoblock amplifier power the system, superbly built SCD-010 CD player. Bergmann of Denmark featured the Bergmann air bearing turntable (including a linear tracking air bearing tonearm). Along with Vitus' Andromeda cables which were utilized throughout the system.
