Input Offset allows each input to have its own volume adjustment.
Different source components often have different output levels, which can result in noticeable changes in playback volume when switching between inputs. Input Offset compensates for these differences by automatically adjusting the recalled volume setting for each individual input.
Because Input Offset only changes the volume step that is recalled when an input is selected, it does not affect the sound quality, gain structure, signal path, or overall performance of the product.
Why Use Input Offset?
Input Offset helps create a more consistent listening experience when switching between sources.
Benefits include:
- More consistent playback levels between sources
- Fewer volume adjustments when changing inputs
- Improved day-to-day usability
- Better integration of components with different output levels
Per-Input Configuration
Input Offset is configured individually for each input.
This allows every source component to be optimized independently. One input may have a positive offset, another may have a negative offset, and others may remain at 0 dB.
Example
If a streamer typically requires a volume setting of -36 dB and a phono stage typically requires -30 dB for the same listening level, an offset can be applied to either input to reduce the difference. For example, the phono stage could be assigned a +6 dB offset, or the streamer could be assigned a -6 dB offset.
Summary
Input Offset is a convenience feature that helps match the playback level of different sources. The setting is stored independently for each input and only affects the recalled volume setting. It does not affect the sonic performance or sound quality of the product.
